Signs that you might need root canal treatment include severe toothache, swelling around the gum and a gum-boil might appear above the tooth in question. Occasionally however, you may not have any symptoms which is why it’s important to have regular check-ups with your dentist.

Our first priority is to relieve you of your pain. Once we have done this, we will remove the infected and inflamed pulp tissue, thoroughly clean the root canals and then fill them. Root canal treatment may sound scary and painful but when performed to a high standard, it does not hurt. Local anaesthetic and pain relief medication can further help to relieve any discomfort.

The main treatment session takes about one and a half hours. This may sound daunting but the procedure is carried out in a way which allows you to relax your jaw for most of that time. For more complex or re-treatment cases, a second, shorter visit is sometimes required.

The cost of root canal treatment varies depending on the patient but typically you can expect to pay from £795 plus the cost of a consultation appointment. Before any work is carried out, we will always discuss treatment options and the likelihood of success as well as answer any questions you may have.

After the root filling has been completed, you will need to have the tooth permanently filled or crowned in order to ensure the long-term survival of the tooth.

Due to the length of these appointments, they can be hard to fill if cancelled at the last minute so please try to give as much notice as possible if you can’t attend. Failed appointments or last minute cancellations may be liable to a fee.
