Wash Common Dental

At Wash Common Dental Practice, we believe excellent oral health starts with regular, thorough dental examinations. Our routine dental check-ups are designed to provide a complete assessment of your oral health, delivered with care, attention to detail, and a calm, professional approach.

Your routine dental check-up

A routine dental check-up allows your dentist to assess your teeth, gums, and overall oral health, monitor any changes since your last visit, and identify potential issues at an early stage. This preventative approach helps maintain long-term dental health and can reduce the need for more complex treatment in the future.

What’s included in your dental check-up

Your appointment at Wash Common Dental Practice will typically include:

  • Review and update of your medical history and current medications
  • Discussion of any dental concerns or symptoms
  • Extra-oral examination of the face, neck, jaw joints, and lymph nodes
  • Comprehensive oral cancer screening, including examination of all soft tissues
  • Full examination of your teeth
  • Assessment of gum health (BPE screening)
  • Examination of existing dental work, including fillings, crowns, bridges, implants, and dentures
  • Bite and jaw assessment
  • Personalised advice to support your oral health and ongoing care

Dental X-rays may be recommended if clinically necessary to help detect issues that cannot be seen during a visual examination. These will always be explained to you beforehand.

Oral cancer screening

Oral cancer screening is an integral part of every routine dental check-up at Wash Common Dental Practice. This includes both extra-oral and intra-oral examinations to check for any unusual lumps, swellings, ulcers, or changes in the soft tissues.

Most findings are entirely harmless. If anything requires further investigation, your dentist will discuss the next steps with you clearly and reassuringly.

Appointment length

Routine dental check-ups usually last 30 minutes, allowing sufficient time for a careful and unhurried examination.

How often should I have a check-up?

Recall intervals are tailored to each individual. Most patients are advised to attend a routine dental check-up every 6 to 12 months, depending on their oral health and risk factors. Your dentist will advise on the most appropriate schedule for you.

Nervous or anxious patients

We understand that visiting the dentist can feel daunting for some patients. Our team takes a gentle, patient-focused approach and will always take the time to explain each step of your check-up, ensuring you feel comfortable and informed throughout your visit.
